a weird band, a great song and a new treasury list

Lately I started listening to some of my old CDs again which I haven't done in a very long time. You know, like, with a CD in a CD player? One of my all time favorite CDs is the second album of the British band Oasis.
And yes, I agree, the Gallagher brothers may not be the guys you wanna hang out with or invite to a party, but as so often talent is not the same as character, as we like to say in Germany. Or at least my mum always does, I'm not sure if this is one of her very own special quotations ;-)

The first Oasis song I ever heard was "Don't Look Back in Anger" and it was during the European soccer Championchip in 1996 (where Germany first kicked some English ass in the penalty shootout and then later won the final game, yay!!). After that I bought every CD they released but a few years ago, when everyone stopped buying CDs anyway I kinda lost track of the music. The CDs made it through three moves within Germany and even got a spot in one of the 43 boxes we had shipped to the US last year. But only to always end up in a CD stand that is nothing but a dust catcher to us. Last week I suddenly felt like listening to that music again and since we don't even own a stereo anymore, I was very happy to find out that our DVD player is able to play CDs as well ;-)

Anyway, here's my weekly treasury (w33), its title and the inspiration for it coming from one of many great Oasis songs! Enjoy!

issues with MacBook cases

8/15/2012

So, back to my sewing projects, I promised a post about those MacBook cases. Well, they turned out to be a little bit more difficult to make than the cute little iPhone sleeves... I wanted them to fit the MacBook like a second skin, so my first step was to measure my own. Now, since my MacBook Pro is a littttle bit older (I think Apple launched that model back in 2007…) it's not quite as slim as the younger generations. And since newer versions of electronic equipment usually tend to get smaller and thinner, I automatically assumed that if I use the measurements of my MacBook, everything should be fine. Yeah, turned out to be totally wrong!
Check out the following picture: you got my MacBook on the right and Chris’ MacBook on the left (his is a 2010 model). I don’t think you can really tell they are different sizes, right? Both have 15” screens by the way..

Apple obviously likes to mix it up a little, so the newer versions of the MacBook may be slimmer (that’s were I was right!) but they are also a little bit wider, as you can see in the picture below (mine is on top!).

Apple MacBooks
Seriously, who would have guessed that?? Well, not me, that’s for sure. Of course I only noticed when I was almost finished with my first case. I managed to fix the problem (after a long and intense outburst in which I cursed out Apple and myself). The case finally fit, but for the next one I definitely had to add a few millimeters (sorry Americans, but that’s really the best unit of measurement to explain the tiny difference we’re talking about here!) on either side, to make it perfect. I wonder what the newest MacBooks are like btw.. I mean, size-wise…

Anyways, but apart from that little incident, the new cases turned out really pretty, as you can see on these pics:

I added an additional front pocket, so you can also put your power cable and mouse or other stuff in there. The zip pocket was more like a little extra, I have this thing about zip pockets, I like to use them EVERYWHERE I can because they add a nice touch to an item.
But at the same time, a small zip pocket on your laptop case can be very convenient as well, as you can put pens in there, loose coins or maybe even your phone?
Check out these MacBook cases in my shop!

My latest treasury list on Etsy with beautiful items that hopefully evoke that typical "late summer feeling" in you! I just love the month of august, when the sunlight changes, temperatures get comfy again and you can already feel that fall is only a few more weeks away.
I tried to capture that very feeling with my weekly treasury (w32). Summer's not over yet, so enjoy it as much as possible! ;-)

iPhone cases

charmed Liebling iPhone cases with pull-tab

This previous week has been all about MacBook and iPhones cases for me. I’ll get to the MacBook cases in my next post, because they turned out to be a real pain in the ass challenge…

There were basically two good reasons why I decided on making those iPhone cases: first of all I finally managed to clean out my studio which really was a good thing to do, because it had become quite a mess. I couldn’t believe how many little pieces of fabric I found in all my drawers and boxes, and the only chance to save them from being tossed was finding a way to make something out of them. That’s how the idea with the iPhone cases hit my mind ;-)
I've also been making a lot of new wallets lately and to provide a little bit of variety in my daily routine I felt like trying out some new designs.

I wanted to keep it really simple, no closures or anything, just a slim case, where the phone is safely protected. I tend to drop things, I know how important that aspect is...!
To make it easier to get the phone out of the case though, I added a strip of ribbon, put it through a small opening in the back of the case, and through both lining pieces. That way, the phone kind of “sits” on the ribbon and if you pull the tab, the phone slides out of the case and you can easily grab it.

All I need for those neat little phone covers is a piece of ribbon, a bit of interfacing and four pieces of fabric, 5.5 x 3.5” each. That way I can use almost every inch of my precious fabrics  ;-)

More of those iPhone cases will soon be available in my shop!

A really slim case where the phone fits in perfectly.

Note that these hands are not mine! But it was really cute how Chris agreed to be my hand model for that shoot ;-)
